Гурий, Самон и Авив — христианские святые мученики и исповедники, жившие в III — начале IV веков.
Гурий и Самон были священниками в области Эдессы около 303 года, когда император Диоклетиан начал гонения на христиан. Они были обвинены в том, что помогали христианам, брошенным в темницы, и побуждали верующих не поддаваться угрозам и проявить стойкость даже при сожжении.
Святые предстали перед правителем Антиохии Мусонием, который попытался принудить их к отречению от Христа. Но оба исповедника отказались со словами: «Мы не изменим единому Небесному Богу. Мы не променяем Его на изображение, сделанное человеческими руками. Мы поклоняемся Христу Богу, Который по Своей благости спас нас от греха. Он — наш Свет, наш Врач и наша Жизнь».
Тогда правитель обвинил их в том, что они восстают против повелений императора, и грозил им ужасной и мучительной смертью, если они будут упорствовать.
Авив пострадал во время гонений при императоре Лицинии. На Авива был подан донос, и на суде правитель города пытался склонить Авива принести жертвы языческим богам. Святой исповедал веру во Христа и был приговорён к сожжению. Мученик сам пошёл в огонь и с молитвой предал дух свой Господу.
День памяти святых мучеников Гурия, Самона и Авива в Православной Церкви совершается 15 (28) ноября.
Среди православных христиан святые известны как покровители супружества, брака, счастливой семьи.
Gurias, Samon, and Aviv were Christian holy martyrs and confessors who lived in the 3rd and early 4th centuries.
Gurias and Samon were priests in the region of Edessa around 303, when Emperor Diocletian began persecuting Christians. They were accused of aiding Christians imprisoned and urging believers to resist threats and show steadfastness even when burned.
The saints appeared before Musonius, the governor of Antioch, who attempted to force them to renounce Christ. But both confessors refused, declaring, «We will not betray the one Heavenly God. We will not exchange Him for an image made by human hands. We worship Christ God, who in His goodness saved us from sin. He is our Light, our Physician, and our Life.»
The governor then accused them of rebelling against the emperor’s orders and threatened them with a terrible and painful death if they persisted.
Aviv suffered during the persecutions under Emperor Licinius. A denunciation was filed against him, and at his trial, the city governor attempted to persuade him to sacrifice to pagan gods. The saint confessed his faith in Christ and was sentenced to be burned at the stake. The martyr went into the fire and, with prayer, surrendered his spirit to the Lord.
The feast day of the holy martyrs Gurias, Samon, and Aviv is celebrated in the Orthodox Church on November 15 (28).
Among Orthodox Christians, the saints are known as the patrons of marriage, matrimony, and happy families.
